    Bamenda, Cameroon | 2 October 2026

Hope for a Better Future (H4BF) welcomed Lidya Embakom Beyene, Youth4Climate’s Focal Person for Africa, to Bamenda on 2 October 2026 for a field visit to H4BF’s Clean Energy for All project.

The visit formed part of Youth4Climate’s mission to Cameroon to monitor supported projects, assess results and community impact, document achievements and lessons, and identify opportunities for sustainability and scaling.

H4BF used the visit to showcase how Youth4Climate support has helped transform youth climate action into practical technical skills, clean-energy services and entrepreneurial opportunities.

    PROJECT ACHIEVEMENTS

H4BF’s Clean Energy for All initiative began with a five-centre pilot in Donga-Mantung and has grown into a wider clean-energy enterprise network.

Through the project and its expanded network, H4BF has achieved:

    • 8 active Clean Energy Centres
    • 13 women and youth entrepreneurs in the wider enterprise network
    • 18,742 people reached
    • 3,420 beneficiary households registered
    • 12,640 solar lamps and lanterns distributed
    • 2,200 clean cookstoves distributed
    • 31,480 phone-charging service units recorded
    • 8,400 transaction records captured
    • FCFA 72,825,400 in recorded transaction revenue
    • 74.2% solar-lighting adoption among monitored households
    • 61.8% clean-cooking adoption
    • 78.4% of beneficiaries reporting better lighting at night
    • 71.5% reporting improved household safety
    • 67.9% reporting improved study time for children

These results show that the project is moving beyond training alone. Young people are applying technical and entrepreneurial skills to operate clean-energy services while communities gain access to practical solutions.

    YOUTH SKILLS AND ENTERPRISE

The project trains young people, with a strong focus on girls, in solar photovoltaic installation, maintenance, monitoring and repair, alongside entrepreneurship and business management.

The H4BF model connects training with enterprise development. Participants are supported to establish and operate clean-energy centres that provide solar products, services and maintenance to underserved communities.

This approach creates a pathway from:

Skills → Entrepreneurship → Clean Energy Services → Income → Community Impact

For H4BF, this is an important demonstration of how climate action can simultaneously contribute to youth employment, women’s economic participation and improved access to clean energy.

THE IMPACT OF THE YOUTH4CLIMATE VISIT

Lidya’s visit provided an opportunity to see this work directly, engage with the H4BF team and reflect on the progress made since the project began.

The visit also allowed H4BF to share the experiences of young entrepreneurs, discuss implementation challenges and present its vision for expanding youth-led clean-energy solutions across Cameroon.

Youth4Climate’s mission specifically focuses on reviewing project progress, assessing results and community impact, capturing stories and testimonials, identifying lessons and challenges, and exploring opportunities for sustainability and scale.

For H4BF, the visit therefore represented more than a monitoring exercise. It was an opportunity to demonstrate what youth climate investment can achieve when young people receive not only training, but also practical tools, entrepreneurship support and pathways to establish businesses.

    LOOKING AHEAD

H4BF is building on the experience of Clean Energy for All to strengthen its wider green-skills and enterprise ecosystem through HOBEFI, connecting vocational training, entrepreneurship, incubation and market opportunities.

The ambition is to help more young people move from acquiring green skills to creating enterprises and delivering climate solutions in their own communities.

H4BF sincerely appreciates Lidya Embakom Beyene, Youth4Climate and UNDP for visiting our project in Bamenda, engaging with our team and young people, and supporting the continued development of youth-led climate solutions in Cameroon.

    From skills to enterprise.
    From enterprise to community impact.
From local solutions to scalable climate action.
