    The Great Mind Summit Regional Edition brought together stakeholders from various sectors to explore how renewable energy can be a driver of sustainable development and youth empowerment. This event, organized under the Cameroon RenewED Project and supported by the EU Erasmus Program, showcased the transformative potential of renewable energy education and entrepreneurship in Cameroon.

    A Warm Opening:

    The summit opened with a heartfelt welcome from the Regional Delegate of MINPMEESA, who emphasized the importance of youth involvement in addressing Cameroon’s energy challenges. The CNYC Mezam Divisional President delivered an inspiring keynote speech, calling on young people to seize the opportunities created through renewable energy initiatives.

    The Senior Divisional Officer (SDO) for Mezam officially declared the event open, commending the organizers for their commitment to fostering resilience and creating jobs in renewable energy sectors.

    Showcasing Innovation:

    One of the summit’s highlights was the Student Project Showcase Exhibition, where 25 innovative projects were displayed. These ranged from solar-powered irrigation systems to wind turbines designed for rural electrification. The creativity and practical solutions presented by students demonstrated the impact of hands-on vocational training.

    Ngo Abdulai, the Coordinator of the Cameroon RenewEDProject, introduced the initiative, outlining its achievements in integrating renewable energy training into vocational education and its focus on equipping youth with entrepreneurial skills.

    Expert Insights:

    Dr. Njimboh Henry Alombah delivered an engaging presentation on Exploring Solar, Wind, and Hydropower Potentials in Cameroon. He highlighted the vast opportunities for renewable energy in the country and the importance of tapping into these resources for sustainable growth.

    A presentation on Policy Frameworks for Renewable Energy Adoption explored how government policies can foster innovation and investment in renewable energy, ensuring long-term impact.

    Interactive Discussions:

    Two panels engaged participants in meaningful discussions:

    • Bridging Vocational Education and the Labor Market
      Panelists, including representatives from MINEFOP, MINPMEESA, UNDP, and UN Women, explored ways to align training programs with industry demands and create opportunities for women in renewable energy.
    • Entrepreneurship in the Renewable Energy Sector
      This session highlighted success stories from youth entrepreneurs and explored market opportunities for startups. Speakers encouraged participants to pursue renewable energy as a viable path for economic empowerment.

    Recognizing Achievements:

    Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed with 25 mentor institutions, strengthening the network of support for students and young innovators. The top student projects were awarded for their creativity and potential, motivating participants to continue pushing boundaries.

    Closing and Networking:

    The summit concluded with remarks from the President of the Regional House of Assembly, who commended the commitment of all stakeholders. The SDO for Mezam delivered a closing speech, encouraging ongoing collaboration to promote renewable energy and youth development.

    The networking reception provided attendees with opportunities to connect and explore partnerships, ensuring the discussions and commitments made during the summit will translate into tangible actions.

    Impact:

    This summit empowered over 150 youth, strengthened collaboration between sectors, and showcased innovative solutions to Cameroon’s energy challenges. It served as a powerful reminder of the potential of renewable energy to drive sustainable development while equipping the next generation with the skills to lead the way.

    The momentum created at the Great Mind Summit Regional Edition will undoubtedly shape the future of renewable energy in Cameroon.
